An interesting take at the start of a new generation

The Last of Us: Remasteredis a real thing that’s happening on the PS4, and the visuals are reportedly too “remastered” that they almost didn’t fit on a standard Blu-Ray disc. Speaking to Edge, creative director Neil Druckmann stated, “Our cinematics are now running at 1080p and 60fps, and that involved rendering them all from scratch. It’s interesting that now instead of a technical bottleneck, the bottleneck is can we fit all this on the disc?”

Apparently the entire process was much easier than your average HD port, becauseThe Last of Uswas already built with near current-gen quality visuals in mind. So when they made the jump over to the PS4 forRemastered, it wasn’t much of a stretch outside of the existing assets.

Still, this is an interesting thing to note at thestartof current-gen if developers are already having problems with the media format. It’s a clear hint at an all, or near-all digital future somewhere down the line. Those higher capacity discs couldn’t come soon enough.
