Yes, Handsome Jack is dead

Back whenTales from the Borderlandswasfirst announced at last year’s VGX, one of the questions that came up was, “Wait, why is Handsome Jack in the trailer if this occurs after the events ofBorderlands 2? Shouldn’t he be dead?” At the end of the video above, Gearbox writer and former Destructoid ranter Anthony Burch hints at Jack’s involvement in this new story, saying “Handsome Jack is dead and he’s not coming back, but there are contingencies.”

Otherwise, the video discusses the relationship between Gearbox and Telltale in producing the upcoming series, with an emphasis thatTales from the Borderlandsis a Telltale-developed game set in a Gearbox-created universe.

Fan favorite Randy Pitchford says aboutTales from the Borderlands, “The decisions that I’m making as a player actually affect the outcome of the story.” With all of the talk about how the studio does not have a clear vision for whatBorderlands 3would be, and the almost-lamentations in the interviews above about the limited range of interactions in the main series games, I can’t help but wonder if the next entry will take a more nonlinear approach to storytelling. Could be a neat idea to explore.
