If there is one thing I learned aboutSupreme Commanderwhile at Gas Powered Games formy previewof it it’s that the universe the game takes place in is huge, and with Squares Enix’s new push for more story focused games in the series it seems that we might be exploring that universe in new ways. When chatting with David Hoffman, Director of Business Development and Executive Producer onSupreme Commander 2, he mentioned that the one of the reasons Square Enix decided to publish the game is that they saw the possibility to move into new genres.

“I felt that RTS is something that really stands on its own two feet and can evolve itself into other genres. I’m referring to what Blizzard did withWarcrraft,” he said. When pressed a little further about expanding the series he noted, “I think Square Enix has a long term vision for any franchise that it develops. If [Supreme Commander] is a successful hit we would like to see it evolve. Into what is still being talked about. We want to take it one step at a time.”
