Detachable butt in the full release

Butt Sniffin Pugsis a game about exactly what you’d expect: walk around a park, sniff pug butts, get new abilities, sniff more pug butts. While that does sound wonderful, there are other people on this site who have more expertise in butts than me. It’s the controller I want to talk about.

You roll a big ol’ tennis ball around to move, and then slap on a plushy dog’s arse to take a whiff. The entire thing looks like something MacGyver would make to detonate a bomb in a pet shop, but developer Gabe Telepak says he wants to adapt it to work for a wider variety of games to help allow players with disabilities to play.

Talking toKotakuat IndieCade, Telepak said:

At first [Butt Sniffin Pugs] was kind of this fun thing, but now we’re trying to use it to talk about accessibility. Like, ‘Hey, we can make our games more accessible. It’s not that hard.’ Instead of letting the controller die as a one-time thing, we want to use it for that cause.

While it’s essentially a big-ass trackball, theButt Sniffin Pugscontroller could be incredibly helpful for people who don’t have the fine motor skills needed to use a traditional controller. One of the pros of this controller is that it doesn’t seem like it would be particularly cost-prohibitive for players, as opposed to some of the accessible hardware that’s out there.

Telepak is working with IndieBox and AbleGamers to make a slightly less janky version of the controller that, unfortunately, also has a removable dog butt. I kind of think that should be absolutely compulsory for all controllers ever.

There’s no specific release date forButt Sniffin Pugsother than “in 2016” for PS4 and PC, and “later” for iPad. The controller is still in the prototyping stages, so don’t expect to see that quite yet either.

There is also a Kickstarter for the game coming some time this month, but what with there only being three days left of it I’m not quite surewhen.
