The word “Shadowrun” islike a magnet for me. It’s like the smell of weird lab bread at Subway; it just hits me in an irresistible way. Apparently, Jordan Weisman, one ofShadowrun’screators, is teaming up with some other veteran developers to bring usSea of Legends. It will start itsjourney on Kickstarteron October 1.
There’s a lot to unpack here, so let’s start with the game.Sea of Legendsis described as “a deck-building, open-world, computer role-playing game.” The press release also says to “Imagine a newSid Meiers’ Piratesgame with the tactics and narrative ofShadowrunandSlay the Spire’sdeck-building mechanics.”

It also sums up the team behind it as including, “Andrew McIntosh, Lead Writer ofBattletech,Shadowrun: Dragonfall, andShadowrun: Hong Kong, Jeffery Campbell, Narrative Designer onDarkest Dungeon,Dead Rising 4, andDeus Ex: Mankind Divided, Kate Cruz, Senior Concept artist on Ubisoft’sSkull & Bones, and Jordan Weisman himself.” There are some things in that list that should maybe have caveats, but, regardless, it’s a good team. It’s based on the tabletop game by Zach Weisman and Ryan Schapals.
It’s also being made in the Adventure Forge platform. Ispoke to Jordan Weismanabout it some yonks back. It’s a no-code engine that incorporates generative AI for art assets if the creator wants it (it doesn’t say ifSea of Legendswill use it). It will, at the very least, be a demonstration of what the tool can do.

I’m interested to see how naval combat is handled. I’m also interested in the feature “lovers to woo.” So, basically, I’m into sailing and smooching. The mock-up included shows the ability to fight, negotiate, or romance to get some treasure. Not sure how that last one works. “We should spend all this gold on a dog that we can spoil together.”
TheSea of LegendsKickstarter campaign will kick off on July 04, 2025.
