This PlayStation State of Play is the first of the year for Sony, and looks set to spotlight what’s on the way for its hardware, both in the PlayStation 5 and the imminentPlayStation VR2.

We’ve already seen 2023 kick-off streams from bothXboxandNintendo. So with this stream, Sony is taking the opportunity to set the tone for its year ahead.

With that in mind, the lack of first-party games here does feel a bit surprising. We don’t really know what Sony’s first-party lineup looks like for 2023, outside an assumption thatMarvel’s Spider-Man 2will play a part in it.

Still, Sony State of Play streams have had some surprises before, and the third-party developers could bring some surprises. There are other games we’ve yet to hear more about due out later this year, includingStreet Fighter 6andFinal Fantasy XVI, both of which have featured in Sony’s previous streams.

PlayStation VR2 is also front-of-mind for Sony, it seems. With five games, that will make up at least a decent chunk of the stream, and probably be exciting for anyone picking up the new headset this week. We’ll see what all Sony has in store for its PlayStation State of Play on Feb. 23.
