Netflix is working on a live-actionThe Legend of Zeldaseries that is described as, “Game of Thronesfor a family audience,” which is kind of like ifBreaking Badwas aboutPeanutscharacters in a lemonade stand competition. I think Netflix is missing a huge opportunity to take J. K. Rowlings’Game of Thronesstyle–nudity and blood and tits–and present an aging Nintendo fanbase with a gritty re-imagining of the universe, but I’ll respect Netflix’s direction and cast aLegend of Zeldaseries where throne ascendancy disputes get solved like the time onFresh Princewhere it turns out Uncle Phil is really good at billiards....

It will make your heart race Spencer Hayes and I got some quality time with Techland’sDying Lightand we both came away pretty surprised from the experience. The game features a day and night cycle, and the day time stuff we played was pretty average. We knew what to expect, especially after playing games likeDead Island, another open world zombie game from Techland. But then the night time stuff came up and holy crap the game gets super intense....

Nintendo will be celebrating the 20th anniversary ofKirbyby doing what game companies do with a series once whenever they hit a nice round number; they’re repackaging the old games.Kirby’s Dream Collection, coming to Wii, brings together the first six games to feature the pink puff ball and his insatiable appetite and seasons with new “challenge stage” content and an interactive timeline of the franchise. I adore these games. Well, most of them, anyway....

Looks promising Although details have been pretty scarce over the years, it’s safe to say theFinal Fantasy XIreboot for mobile devices has been progressing quite nicely, especially if these new screenshots found on aNexon job listingare anything to go by. What we do know so far is that it’ll be running on Unreal Engine 4 (hence the new look) and will still aim to retain the original story, while also containing new features such as “Dynamic Events,” and an enhanced battle system that will be faster than the previous game (while still retaining things like job commands, skill chains, and previous features)....

If it’s been a while since you’ve played or even seen the 1997 original, you ought to take a look to get a real sense of how much work has gone into this project. Even for pre-alpha footage, I’m impressed. New ‘n’ Tastyis scheduled to release in Q4 2013 on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network (PS3 and Vita), and also PC at a later date....

‘I love flowers’ — Nintendo president Satoru Iwata While it’s noSuper Mario Bros. 3on 3DS, darn it, the newly-announced Animal Crossing Plaza is cool in its own right. As demonstrated during this morning’sNintendo Direct, this free app gives series fans a place to congregate on Wii U. Images taken inAnimal Crossing: New Leafcan be imported to the Plaza, and custom designs can be easily shared via QR codes. Interestingly, the app is only going to run through the end of 2014 after which point Nintendo will shut it down....

In a move that could only be considered incredibly good common sense; Nokia has decided to cancel all plans for the release of the N-Gage 2; not surprising, when you consider how disastrous the original N-Gage was (remembersidetalking?). Replacing the gaping hole left in the cell phone gaming world by the N-Gage 2’s absence, will be the N-Gage platform. Not another cell phone with piss poor design, mind you, but an actual gaming platform that allows gaming on all N-Gage enabled phones....

“Mistakes are the portals of discovery” — James Joyce Admittedly, it’s a bit late in coming, but I just couldn’t let this latest teaser trailer from Two Tribes’ fantastic-looking “Metal Wrecking, Robot Hacking Shooter”RIVEslip by without dedicating a post to it. It’s just that damned good. It’s titled “Enthusiasm,” and in it the team illustrates several of the many, many ways that players can fail spectacularly at playing the game to hilarious effect....

‘Guild Halls’ feature detailed Live from E3 at the PC Gaming Show, ArenaNet’s Colin Johanson shed some light on the previously announced Guild Halls feature for the upcomingGuild Wars 2: Heart of Thornsexpansion. You’ll be able to decorate your massive hall, which serves as a social space, as well as fight in your own personal arena, and organize adventures. They’re described as an “entire map,” and players will capture that area for their guild within the core campaign, taking it back from the main adversary of the expansion....

13GB and 10GB each, respectively Yesterday, we got a really good look at the newPokemon Diamond/Pearlremakes, as well asPokemon Legends. While the former haven’t really set the internet on fire even after their second showing,Legendsis really taking to a lot of people,especially given a few of its weird new Pokemon that can maul you in the overworld. Given that all three of the gamesare up for pre-ordernow on the Nintendo eShop, we have some file sizes to share....
