Gotta stream fast

The animatedSonicuniverse keeps on expanding. Today, we got a quick teaser of a newSonicanimation coming to Netflix,Sonic Prime.

Sonic Prime‘s suitablyspeedy teaserfeatures the hedgehog himself, racing along what looks like the Green Hill Zone. We don’t get much more than a good look at the animation style for this series, but it at least gives us a good idea of what’s in store.

Not many more details are out right now. According to aNetflix description of the show,Sonic Primewill see the Blue Blur attempt to save a new multiverse. It’s also, apparently, a journey of self-discovery and redemption. Dang, was the originalSonicmovie teaser really that bad?

No premiere date’s been set yet for the 24-episode series.

Sonic on top of the world

It’s certainly been a good few years for the blue hedgehog, at least in media at large. Both the first and secondSonic the Hedgehogmovies hadhuge debuts, making Sonic the presumptive leader in video game movie attendance.

The open-world Sonic game,Sonic Frontiers, isexpected sometime later this yearand sounds pretty cool so far.Sonic the Fightersappeared in the law-and-order spinoff of theYakuzaseries withLost Judgement. Even some classicSonic the Hedgehoggames are getting anew re-release collectionwith a bunch of neat futures. Though, that particular collection has caused some trouble, both with its pre-order scheme andtangential de-listings.

With Netflix at least, Sonic’s fortunes could continue to be golden. It has been home to a bunch of video game adaptations, fromCupheadtoThe Witcher. The streaming platform has been having some public trouble too, due towaning numbersandlayoffs at its Tudum website. Hopefully the Blue Blur isn’t caught up in the churn.
