Okay, I never got through the second stage ofMarble Madness. I think the NES/arcade classic is universally regarded as a hard ass game, but from what little I did experience, I loved the music. Grant “Stemage” Henry ofMetroid Metalapparently also loves the game and its soundtrack (I think he even beat it!) and has prepared an amazing remix album titledWhere Good Marbles go to Diefilled with 30 minutes of dreamy rock-oriented tributes featuring a slew of special guests including Disasterpeace and a ton of amazing guitarists and arrangers from the game music band/arrangement scene.
This is some top-notch work, although I admit I love the first three tracks most as they’re the only ones I was able to hear in-game. I’d say things transition from dreamy with the opening theme, “60 (ft. Disasterpeace)” to jubilant in “Pipe Dream (ft Lauren Liebowitz of Descendants of Erdrick)” to crazy rockin’ shred fest in the final track, “High Roller (ft. VikingGuitar).” Best of all, the album is available for name-your-own-price onBandcampand is even being released on a snazzy-looking cassette tape (seen below) for $5 USD.
