That’s certainly a big step for eSports

There’s going to be a fresh set of faces at this year’s X Games event in Austin among all the familiar high-flying, trick-pulling daredevils. The new guys on the scene will be professional gamers, eschewing traditional X Games mainstays such as half pipes and mounds of dirt for controllers and flat screen televisions.

Major League Gamingannounced todaythat it has partnered with ESPN to bring the topCall  of Duty: Ghoststeams to the June 6-8 showcase in Austin, Texas. The winners will be awarded medals, lending credence to the fact that ESPN considers them legitimate participants in the X Games, and not some sort of sideshow affair.

It’s hard to deny that MLG doesn’t necessarily fit into the “extreme” archetype that the X Games has become so well known for. However, witheSportson the rise, there’s definitely an audience, and this might be an opportune place to gain even more exposure.
