Enjoy just under six minutes of the adorable-looking stealth roguelike

It’s been a while since we last talked about Puppygames’ newest project, the creepy/adorable stealth-roguelikeBasingstoke, so I thought it would be a good idea to check in with the developers and see how things are coming along.

Not only did we get a status report on the game, we’ve also got just under six minutes of intriguing gameplay to share with you as well. It’s looking quite good!

Puppygames developer Justin “Allicorn” Burt was kind enough to take time out of his schedule and give us a quick rundown of how the game is shaping up, some of the features we can expect to see in it and when we can expect to get our hands on it.

Describing the world ofBasingstoke, Allicorn tells us that “Our concept is about mixing together ‘funny’ with ‘eerie’ with a cute and stylish looking procedurally generated world and adorable little characters making their way through it.” The world he’s talking about is the post-alien-invasion ruins of the English town Basingstoke, which is now shrouded in darkness and crawling with flesh-eating creatures from “beyond the moon.”

InBasingstoke, you’ll be traveling through a landscape filled with loot and hazards that will get more varied the further you venture. Note the variety of gear shown in the video — your character will stumble across everything from night vision goggles to fireworks and half-eaten pizza.

Elaborating on the items you’ll find in the game, Allicorn explains that “Loot, much of which is craftable, includes guns and melee weapons but ammo is scarce and melee won’t be useful against tougher opponents so tricks, traps and distractions become very important.”

It sounds like a lot of fun. By putting the emphasis on being creative, and offering you a large enough toolset,Basingstokeseems like it could have a ton of replay value.

Work onBasingstokehas been underway for just under two months.

Allicorn mentions that the “Recent weeks have mostly been about scenery and equipment assets that’ll be common to most of the game and filling out the specific graphics resources used in the game’s early stages. That, and getting the world layout just right.”

If the video is any indication of the state of the game, they’re making great progress. Allicorn estimates that the team is about three months away from launch, so it’s not long now.
