I’m constantly defending Japanese art and videogames to my friends. For instance, you know that scene inMy Neighbor Totoro(1:56) where Mei and Satsuki are taking a bath with their Dad? Every time I watch that movie with someone who’s never seen it before, I have to explain that “No, this movie does not have a pro-pedophilia agenda. There’s nothing sexual going on here. Don’t project your weirdness on to one of the most innocent, good natured movies ever made”.
Well, I wouldn’t be able to provide similar protection to thisMega Manart. I’m definitely a little creeped out by the way these Rolls (fromMega Man,Mega Man: Powered Up,Mega Man 8, Mega Man Legends, andMega Man: Battle Network) are lying around and semi-cuddling together. If Princess Peach, Daisy, Toadette, that bigboobed ghost fromPaper Mario, and Birdo were depicted in artwork like this, Nintendo would never even acknowledge it, let alone sell it. Capcom, on the other hand, has put this art up for sale in Japan, on both a collectible puzzle and a coffee mug.

Then again, my gender (and my overexposure to yucky, sexualized videogame fan-art) may be skewing my perspective on this situation a bit. I just showed the art to my wife, who just immediately let out a “D’aaaaw” and the art reminds her of how fun her teenage slumber parties used to be.
So what do you think? Is this art pure, or pervy?
