If you’re looking to customize your character inFinal Fantasy XIV, one of the easiest ways to stand out from the crowd is by getting a fresh new haircut. There are a lot of hairstyles available from the start, but also new ones that can be unlocked or purchased.

These new hairstyles come from a variety of sources, some of which are free, while others will cost you some Gil. If you’re in a hurry andnot short on funds, you’re able to purchase most of these on the Marketboard. They’re usually sold for a pretty high price, but if you’ve got some time, you can get them through other means instead.

How to change your hairstyle in Final Fantasy XIV

In order to unlock the ability to change your hair inFinal Fantasy XIV, you’ll need to do a couple of things:

Once you’ve done these, head to Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks and pick up the side quest “Beauty Is Only Scalp Deep”, which will unlock the Aesthetician, Jandelaine.

Each time you want to change your hair (or other things about your appearance, such as face paint or tattoos), you’ll need to interact with a Crystal Bell. These can be found in any of the Inn Rooms across Eorzea or placed inside your own apartment or house. Changing your hairstyle will cost you 2,000 Gil each time.

To get your own Crystal Bell, you may either purchase one on the Marketboard or make your own. You’ll need to have Master Blacksmith III recipes unlocked, and the recipe requires the following ingredients:

Hairstyles available from the Gold Saucer in Final Fantasy XIV

Most hairstyles appear the same on both male and female characters, although some have distinct differences, and there are even some that are male- or female-specific. I’ll note those that have gender differences below.

Hairstyles from the Gold Saucer

There are a total of six hairstyles up for grabs in return forMGP. These cannot be traded and, therefore, cannot be purchased on the Marketboard.

Hairstyles from large-scale content

There are four hairstyles which can be obtained through eitherStormbloodorShadowbringerslarge-scale content. These hairstyles look the same on both males and females. These hairstyles are also tradeable, and therefore can be purchased on the Marketboard.

Hairstyles from Deep Dungeons or Variant Dungeons

All of these hairstyles look the same on both males and females and are tradeable, so they can also be purchased on the Marketboard.

Hairstyles from High-end content

As of patch 7.15, a new hairstyle called “A Half Times Two” has been added toFFXIV. This hairstyle is obtained by completing The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) and can be exchanged for 49 Clouddark Demimateria II from Uah’shepya in Solution Nine. Clouddark Demimateria will drop when the duty itself is successfully completed, and the hairstyle can be found in Uah’shepya’s “Sublime Curiosities” sub-section.

This hairstyle is tradeable, so you will find some for purchase on the Marketboard. However, due to the difficulty associated with getting it and how popular the very pretty hairstyle is likely to be, the price of the unlockable style is likely to be incredibly high for some time.

Hairstyles from The Tower at Paradigm’s Breach

The Tower at Paradigm’s Breach, the final Alliance Raid in the Nier series, is the only duty with hairstyles as a possible drop. There are two that are guaranteed to drop after the final boss. They appear in the shared Treasure Chest, so you’ll have to compete with all other players to get them.

These can be sold on the Marketboard and usually are relatively cheap. They look the same on both male and female characters:
