A couple of months ago,we were toldthat Xbox Live Rewards would be incentivizing Achievements this fall. Microsoft has now rolled out that functionality, which allows Goldto earn rewards based on how many Achievements they unlock. Looking at the prizes, it’s a smart move on their part.

Earning 3,000 to 9,999 Gamerscore will give you a “special gift” (with an approximate retail value of $0.25) during your birthday month; 10,000 to 24,999 Gamerscore adds a 1% rebate on Xbox Live Marketplace purchases every month; and 25,000+ Gamerscore bumps the rebate up to 2%.

Taken as a bonus for something you’d do normally (earn Achievements and buy stuff), it’s not completely terrible. I mean, it could have just been Avatar rewards. Frankly, I’m surprised itwasn’t.
