‘People don’t want another Battlefield with Star Wars graphics’

Concerns about where DICE will takeStar Wars: Battlefronthave been expressed before, and with little to go on outside of a vague “probably in summer 2015”launch window, I can absolutely see why. Even if the studio has a proven track record withBattlefield, there are still so many unknowns. In terms of the game’s direction, executive producer Patrick Bach toldVideo Gamerthat “We haven’t really locked that down yet.

“I think there’s of course a part of the DICE DNA to build the games that we’re building, but then again we’re building games likeMirror’s Edgeas well,” he said. “So I think it will be a challenge for us. [You’re] damned if you do, damned if you don’t. People don’t want anotherBattlefieldwithStar Warsgraphics; they want aStar Warsgame that is proper.”

Which is reassuring to hear, because I think he’s nailed it. But — of course there’s a “but” — Bach went on to say “if you compromise brilliant design choices fromBattlefieldjust because you’re not allowed from some kind of moral standpoint, then I think that’s also wrong. We need to make the best game possible. What that means in detail, we will see.”
