Why we should all care more

Mark Serrels of Kotaku Australiarecently posted an opinion piececalling for gamers — and fans in general — to “care less” about the media that they consume. Hatred, bile, irrationality, and “the sh*tstorm following negative reviews,” he says, is a product of people caring too much about such things. I say that we should caremore. Mind, I’m not arguing that we needmoreinternet vitriol. Just the opposite, in fact. But it’s wrong to think that the solution to fandom’s worst excesses is replace anger with apathy....

Shut up and have some screenshots of the Wii game that everybody is talking about … when they remember it exists …Deadly Creatures. It stars Dennis Hopper and it features a spider and a scorpion working together like Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney, only with more leg and enough eyes to more than make up for those not pulling their weight in the ocular department....

Destructoid review: Everyday Shooter

Everyday Shooteris the PS3’s answer toGeometry Wars, created by Jonathan Mak and Queasy Games. The game plays just like Geometry Wars, for the little amount of time that I’ve played it, and focuses on musical rhythms. As Jonathan himself put it onthe game’s website: Everyday Shooteris an album of games exploring the expressive power of abstract shooters. Dissolute sounds of destruction are replaced with guitar riffs harmonizing over an all-guitar soundtrack, while modulating shapes celebrate the flowing beauty of geometry....

The current list of supported games includesGran Turismo 5,Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit,Burnout Paradise,MotorStorm Apocalypse, andLittleBigPlanet Karting....

New releases: Call of Juarez, BlazBlue and more

There’s some confusion on the new releases list this week and there might be a ton more games out this week than what’s actually listed after the break. At the very least, everything that’s listed are the major titles out of the bunch. Unless you think shovelware is a lot better in this case. Anyway, the only game I have some slight interest in getting isCall of Juarez: Bound in Blood....

Metro 2033 dev focused on story, skipping multiplayer

Much to my delight, we’ve seen a lot of games in recent times delve into the subject matter of life in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. What we haven’t really seen, however, is such a theme taking place in Russia. Enough with the same old “everything blew up, so therefore everything looks utterly brown” scenario for just a minute, guys. 4A Games upcoming PC and Xbox 360 titleMetro 2033has mutated beingsanda world covered in snow (trailer here)....

Out-of-touch old windbag won’t buy videogames, bankrupts entire industry

Last night we received a tip from Neil Christie sharing with us what he called “more bullsh*t in the UK press.” Indeed, it was a column by an elderly man called Giles Whittell, whose out-of-touch and frightened scrawling shan’t be directly linked to. This is because I’d rather benefit from his mad warblings while offering him no traffic in return. I will link tothis great CBlogabout it, though. Here’s a sample of his senile rambling: I hate video games, on or offline....
