That’sthe claimcoming from a digital marketing company which insists that there is no innovation on consoles and as such, they are working on borrowed time. The company, known as Clickz, is claiming that the PS3, Xbox 360 and even the Wii are a “giant step backwards.” “We are entering a future that many in the game industry are still denying and fighting against. We are watching the icon of gaming, the console, quickly and ungraciously bow to the Internet,” claimsClickz on its Web site....

E3 09: Bit.Trip interview with Gaijin Games part one

Gaijin Games (ofBit.Trip Beatand the upcomingBit.Trip Core) is the videogame developer you want to work for. In talking to the guys at this year’s E3, I really got the sense that they were all equal partners in the pursuit of creating games that weren’t about making money or appeasing any one audience, but were rather solely focused on doing what they want to do. After enduring all the wanna-be-action-movie games, soulless marketing ploys and ingenue garbage that comes from being at a massive trade show like E3, my time with the guys from Gaijin was a huge breath of fresh air....

Fable Legends will be free-to-play on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs

What Microsoft has just announced thatFable Legendswill be free-to-play. Well, that’s certainly an interesting way to go about it. It will launch on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs, and requires Xbox Live Gold for the former. This will be the most “accessible”Fableiteration yet, and the entire story can be played for free, with a rotation of heroes and villains to play as. I just hope that they don’t go overboard with microtransactions, and that a “full” game can be purchased somehow....

First-person shooters linked with better working memory

“Did he fire six shots or only five?” Dr. Lorenza Colzato at the Leiden University has headed up a study on working memory among gamers and non-gamers. The results were publishedPsychological Research, and the team put together the video above to spread the word. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the group of gamers completed the working memory task more quickly and more accurately than the group of non-gamers. Colzato attributes the result to the idea that first-person shooters“require players to develop a flexible mindset to rapidly react and monitor fast moving visual and auditory stimuli....

Friday Night Fights: Expansion

‘Tis the season for quality expansion packs, so it seems! This week saw the release of two highly-anticipated pieces of DLC:Battlefield 3‘s “Back to Karkand” andGears of War 3‘s “RAAM’s Shadow”. Both offer a hefty hunk of content for a reasonable price (even more reasonable if you purchased the Limited Edition of the former or the “Season Pass” for the latter!), and both come highly recommended! I’ve personally been enjoying the new maps, vehicles and weapons of “Back to Karkand” non-stop since it finally hit the 360 on Tuesday (it was released last week for PS3), and our own Joseph Leray awarded high praise to “RAAM’s Shadow” inhis reviewearlier this week....
